Intelligent connected industry – secure & reliable data exchange
Manufacturing - X:
The future of industrial data rooms
Whether you want to test secure data access in a virtual data room or practical use cases in an industrial pop-up test bed, Smart Systems Hub offers you the right infrastructure and technical and technological expertise to get you started in Manufacturing-X.

Initiative for digitalisation of supply chains in industry
Connected data rooms for a smart future
A sovereign data room for the entire industry is being created under the name Manufacturing-X. Unlike the analog hall, this is not located in one place, but is available wherever there is Internet access. This means that many companies - from SMEs to corporations - can exchange data securely and confidentially along value chains in an open and decentralized data room without relinquishing control.
Your advantages at a glance:
✔︎ Increase process efficiency within your company
✔︎ Establish new data-based business models
✔︎ Exchange data securely and confidently across the entire supply chain
Necessity
Use cases such as just-in-time production, the Supply Chain Act and product recalls create a demand for information along the entire supply chain.

Manufacturing-X Explore&Learn Environment
Our goal is to reduce complexity. With the experimental field, companies do not have to deal with data exchange formats, authentication, and authorization processes; we provide these components ready-to-use. Each participant can use identities and wallets, and connectors are also provided that are used exclusively for their own use case.
This allows us to focus fully on integration applications for business value.
Your advantages:
✔︎ You gain complete control over your virtual data room.
✔︎ You retain absolute data sovereignty with maximum data security.
✔︎ Learn and explore environment for joint innovation.
Get to know the virtual data room—our Manufacturing X testing ground.
Identify implementation options
Recognize the benefits of this technology
Develop your own use cases
Your data. Your space. Your control.
Digital sovereignty in the virtual data room
Each participant in the shared data room—such as manufacturing companies, parts suppliers, or service partners—defines independently and autonomously which data is shared with whom and for how long. This ensures that only information relevant to the respective partner and process is shared. Importantly, the data remains within the respective company and is not stored in the cloud or any other central location.
✔︎ Your data remains within the company.
✔︎ You decide when, how, and with whom you share your data.
✔︎ Targeted sharing creates a strong, collaborative data ecosystem.

Architecture for Sovereign Data Exchange – secure, open, ready to use
Our technical foundation is a modular software ecosystem that makes decentralized data spaces easy to use. It enables data providers and consumers to share data in a trustworthy and controlled way – without relying on a central authority.
At the core are verifiable identities provided through integrated services. These identities form the basis for secure interactions within the data space: offering data, requesting access, defining rules and contracts – and validating everything automatically before any access is granted.
To let users focus on their specific use cases, the Smart Systems Hub’s experimentation environment takes care of the central infrastructure components:
Provision of identities and verification services
Provision of wallets and connectors based on open-source technology (EDC from the Tractus-X repository)
The system architecture is flexible: components like the EDC connector can also be deployed on-premises. However, most teams start with the pre-configured environment – allowing them to get started quickly and gather valuable insights.
What remains:
The data source (the provider’s backend) that needs to be connected
The application on the consumer side that uses the data
This is how technology becomes a true enabler for data-driven innovation.
Virtual data room for Manufacturing-X
Partner Use Cases
The Manufacturing-X Explore&Learn environment is currently already being used by four X-Initiatives with 63 companies for sovereign data exchange.
Use Cases
Real-time Monitoring for Plant Engineers
Product Change Notification
Carbon Footprint
Tracking via Asset Administration Shell
Dismanteling in Production
Popup Testbed
The Smart Systems Hub pop-up test is a mobile testbed that uses real use cases to demonstrate the added value of the data room landscape.
The Testbed is a physical environment to showcase a specific Manufacturing-X use case to the public.
Each wooden box contains a different asset, such as:
a Fischtechnik model factory (simulating a real-life factory in miniature format)
a Cobot
a 3D printer
Software applications
These assets exchange data, which can be made visible via the popup testbed. It can be easily transported to events. If a different use case needs to be showcased, components can be swapped out or modified.
Companies can co-develop a box with us. For example, the Fischertechnik model was built with multiple HUB partners.
